Learning how to keep your house clean with dogs is one of the challenges of adopting a new member of the family. Besides leaving hair all over the place, even on a sunny day, your dog can bring in all kinds of dirt from outside. Not to mention those rainy days when running through a puddle covers your dog in mud!
Don’t despair. There are a few tips you can follow to keep the house clean with dogs.
How to Keep a House Clean with Dogs
Get an Automatic Vacuum
This is especially helpful if your dog sheds a lot and you can’t seem to keep up. Invest in an automatic “robot” vacuum that you can program to vacuum around your house at regular intervals. You’ll be able to rest easy knowing that someone is cleaning up that hair and other dirt from the floors – even when you aren’t home!
Wash Doggie Items
Things like beds, toys, collars, and leashes get dirty over time and can start to smell. Wash anything that is machine washable when it starts to look dirty or smell. If you can’t put something in the machine, then give it thorough cleaning in the sink and let it air-dry outside on a sunny day.
Bathe Your Dog Often
Clean dogs lead to clean homes, so don’t wait until your dog is covered in mud to bathe them. Just giving your dog a quick rinse with plain water every couple of weeks will go a long way towards keeping your house clean. You should give your dog a thorough bath with pet shampoo made for cleaning animals at least once every 2-3 months.
Wipe Your Dog’s Paws Regularly
Use a pet wipe to wipe off your dog’s paws every time they come in from the outdoors to keep them from tracking dirt around the house. You can also place a doormat by each entrance that your dog uses. Your dog will wipe off at least some of the outdoor grime by walking across it and you can take care of the rest with a pet wipe.
Keep Your Dog’s Feet Clean with Walkee Paws
Even a short walk outside when the ground is mucky can mean getting mud and dirt tracked all over your house as soon as you get inside. Walkee Paws are the world’s first dog leggings, designed to protect your dog’s paws and your home from all the yuck and muck outside.
They were invented to overcome all the issues with regular dog boots.
They are easy to put on, comfortable to wear and stay-on due to their patented over-the-back connector. The rubber paws are completely waterproof and the legging fabric is water-resistant to protect your pooch from the elements.
You can remove the leggings when you get home and your dog won’t spread any of that outdoor filth around!
Not only that, but it’s super easy to wash Walkee Paws! You can rinse the paws after each walk or throw them in the washing machine.
Designate a Dog Cleaning Zone
Ideally, this will be somewhere close to the front door where the floors are easy to clean. Put down a doormat so your dog wipes off some of the dirt when they get in and keep things like pet wipes and towels nearby. You can even have a bin to throw stuff like dirty leashes and Walkee Paws so you can clean them later!
